Nigella Sativa Seeds or Black Seeds

Nigella Seeds

Today’s post was written by our very own Kraut-Mother, Jo Nolan. Jo started her own journey to find healthier food options for her family a few years back and because of her research and curiosity, we’re now Be Nourished. Have a read and enjoy!

I started researching into Nigella Sativa a few years ago after a friend recommended it for my skin. Like most westerners, I was not very familiar with Black Seed (Nigella Sativa). Black Seed is used as a spice in Indian and Middle Eastern Cuisine and has been touted as ‘The remedy for everything except death.’

The seeds of the annual flowering plant, Nigella Sativa, have been prized for their healing properties since time immemorial. It has also been used throughout time as a cure-all and was the go-to medicine of the ancient Egyptians. Black seed oil, in fact, was found in Egyptian Pharoah Tutankhamun’s tomb, dating back to approximately 3,300 years ago.

Research is showing that this little seed is truly a Superfood. Black Seeds are anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. Research shows it has the ability to protect the heart, liver, and kidneys from damage. It has been shown to kill many different types of cancer cells and can even aid in weight loss.

I was so excited and amazed by Black Seed that I decided to incorporate this amazing seed into my latest creation, Be Nourished Amala Curry Kraut. You can find this seed mixed with fresh fermented turmeric, cabbage, and cauliflower.

Be Nourished Amala Curry Kraut is a true adventure in taste, ancient herbs, and health. I really hope you enjoy it!
